Appalachian Trail at Hot Springs

We start our hiking at the bridge over the French Broad River
near the popular Hot Springs, North Carolina.

We follow the famous Appalachian Trail, which wanders 1200 miles
from Georgia to Maine. Our hike follows Lover's Leap Ridge;
then uphill to the lookout tower on Rich Mountain
at the Tennessee--N. Carolina state line.

Camp for the night will be on a mountain crest straddling the state border.
Returning the next day, we go along Roundtop Ridge Trail,
one of the most scenic in the mountains.

If desired, when we return to our starting point at Hot Springs,
you may choose to luxuriate in the mineral water baths
located right along the river (fee req'd.)

What makes this hike particularly intriguing is the possibility
of meeting hikers going the whole distance,
Maine to Georgia. And reading of their personal exploits at the trail shelter.
