ABOUT THE AREA
Maggie's Place
B&B/Retreat Center is located 40 minutes west of the City
of Asheville, North Carolina in
Haywood County
, just a little outside of the town of
Waynesville
and overlooking the majestic Balsam Mountains and Hyatt Creek Valley - right in
The Center of the Best of the Smokies.
We are located in the heart of the most scenic outdoor
recreation area of the Southern Appalachian/Smoky Mountains. The Smoky
Mountains are the oldest visible mountain range on the surface of the earth,
having been thrust upward from the sea floor about 250 million years ago by the collision
of the North American and African tectonic plates. Eons of natural erosion have
rounded and smoothed the Smokies into their present appearance. The area is so
rich in wildlife and forest habitat that it is a designated International
Bio-Region and is protected by the US Government and International Treaty. [Geology
