About Us
Glade Mountain Retreat is a truly special place tucked away, high up, on a mountain slope in the rural farming community of Big Sandy Mush in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. With an elevation of approximately 3000 ft., this wonderful retreat center enjoys clean air, pure running streams, and the tranquility of the surrounding mountain peaks.
Glade Mountain Retreat is located about 25 miles or 30 minutes from Asheville, NC, and about 30 miles from the Asheville Airport. Our secluded and peaceful location is perfect for your next individual or group retreat, workshop or seminar, company brainstorming session, or other quiet and intensive get together. Afterwards, your group can enjoy some of Asheville's fine attractions such as outdoor cafes, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, antique shops, craft boutiques, and numerous wilderness adventures, such as hiking, caving, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, horseback riding, etc.
The Retreat House features a spacious 37ft. diameter Deltec circular all purpose meeting room, with a dome-like ceiling that is 13 feet at the peak and 1000 sq ft. of carpeted floor space for your group of up to 35 attendees to utilize as needed. Tables and chairs are available on-premises. The wings on either side of the dome house a fully equipped commercial kitchen on one side, and five bedrooms, with full baths, on the other - housing up to 12 guests. A rustic Spring House, named for its location next to a natural spring, can house up to 5 additional guests, making a total on-site sleepover capacity of 18. Additional guest lodging in quality motels is available minutes away.
Immediately surrounding the retreat are numerous organic gardens, a large mature grape arbor, and the 32ft. Biodome Greenhouse. Seasonal organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs are grown onsite. There is also a wooded area complete with two streams for meditation or nature walks, and a stone medicine wheel for you to explore.
