If you are coming from flatland, then you are about to visit an awesome 3D landscape that extends up into the clouds. The Smoky Mountains are the oldest visible mountains in the world, having been thrust upward by the collision of the North American and African tectonic plates over 250 million years ago. The mountains have been sculptured and rounded into their present form by eons of rain, snow, wind, and the relentless forces of erosion.
