Linville Gorge
Wilderness Adventure
Linville Gorge has been
called "the Grand Canyon of the South."
We hike down to the Linville River (via Conley Cove)
Here are rock
formations and caves like nowhere else in the Blue Ridge
Mountains. Enormous virgin hemlock trees tower above as we work
our way past crystal flowing streams down switchback trails to
the bottom of the Gorge.
We'll stop and visit a
cave large enough for 50 hikers.
At the bottom, we follow the trail along Linville River,
which is filled with monstrous boulders bigger than houses.
We pass Battleship
Rock, shaped just like the prow of a battleship.
And when camp time comes, we can choose to setup tents
or stay in one of the caves near water's edge.
We return to the rim road via Babel Trail
catching magnificent views of Hawksbill Peak and Table Rock.
Be prepared -- this
trip is steep down and steep up, but worth every minute of it!
